Current Projects For 2026

Our work extends beyond direct animal care. We focus on projects that address the root causes of cruelty, improve outcomes for animals in crisis, and prevent harm before it occurs.

Education for Animal Control & Municipal Shelters

Misidentification of small mustelids can have serious consequences.

This project was developed after an animal control agency mistakenly identified a wild mink as a domestic pet ferret- highlighting a gap in training and resources for these unusual animals.

We are creating educational materials to assist:

• Animal Control Officers (ACOs)

• Municipal shelters

• First responders and intake staff

These resources focus on:

• Clear visual and behavioral differences between wild mink and domestic ferrets

• Safe and appropriate intake procedures

• Understanding the specialized care needs of domestic ferrets

• Knowing when wildlife professionals should be contacted

Improved identification and education help ensure that animals receive appropriate care quickly and reduce unnecessary stress, injury, or improper placement.
